Darren, our design director, has recently been volunteering on a Dragon’s Den Panel mentoring students at the Kirklees Youth Enterprise Centre giving his support and advise for young entrepreneurs stepping into the world of business for the first time.
On joining each individual is appointed a dedicated ‘business coach’ who will be responsible for guiding the budding entrepreneur through his or her journey. As well as being available to provide help, guidance and signposting, they will also liaise with staff at the Foundation Panel who will ensure that the young person and their business plan are ready to face the ‘Dragons Den’.
So far, 25 businesses have been set up through the KYEC after pitching their business plans to the Dragons. These businesses range from artists to DJs, and filmmakers to sculptors, and have earned over £100k in start-up funding. The entrepreneurs are as young as 14 years old and have all shown exceptional passion for their talents and turned them into a valid, operational business. We are looking forward to being a bigger part of this organisation as they move forward and hope to guide some young people confidently into the world of business and design.
