Ten years on, it's still our benchmark for measuring impact. Having proudly collected another Design Effectiveness Award in June of this year, we reflect on some of the projects over the last 10 years that have led us to scoop seven accolades in total in these highly prestigious awards.
Design needs to be measurable in terms of impact and return on investment, and the DBA’s pioneering Design Effectiveness Awards evidence design impact and its effect on bottom line performance.
Our awards have been for a range of businesses and organisations, including the world leader in scalp cooling, a leading UK gym, a market-leading construction materials manufacturer, an SME offering professional services, and an organisation delivering sports products and training to support children and young people with disabilities.
A 14,000% (yes you read that right) return on design investment, resulting in £ 1 million being raised from The Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge, for Comoodle. Project: Naming and brand design.
A 22.1 return on design investment for Polyseam, including a 744% uplift in product revenue, and £ 1 million uplift in export sales. Project: Product naming and brand design.
A net profit increase of 500% for Balance Accountants, with inbound enquiries increasing by 30% - alongside £50,000 of new business revenue in year one. Project: Naming and brand design.
120% increase in turnover, plus 69,000 new members for the Xercise4Less gym chain. Project: Brand design.
A return on design investment of 35.1 in relation to turnover, 440 new shareholders and a global doubling of turnover for Paxman, the world leaders in scalp cooling, a treatment to reduce hair loss in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Project: Brand design.

Winning DBA Design Effectiveness Awards provide the design industry with the evidence we need to prove that investment in design can transform business, society and people’s lives.”
