This month saw the full team from The Engine Room take to the Peak District for our annual away days to review and plan.
Our home for 2 days was The Malthouse, a stunning 9 bedroom conversion of Arkwright's Grade II listed former corn mill, superbly located in the historic village of Cromford in Derbyshire.
Arriving in the early evening of Wednesday, we reviewed 2024 to date, and presented the top line plans for 2025, before dinner at The Greyhound, sitting at the centre of Cromford's marketplace just a 3 minute walk down the hill!
All team members took it in turns to take the floor through Thursday, each presenting research and recommendations for individual projects for The Engine Room, from social media, to IT strategy, to web development process and more. We were joined by external presenter, Lucy, who provided some great inspiration for the next chapter for The Engine Room. Having hot-footed it from London in the morning, she got out to Cromford in good time, despite having wondered where all the taxis were when her train pulled in at Matlock station. Yep. 🙂
We finished the day with a brilliant 'brand and useless information quiz', before preparing dinner together which included formidable barbequing and some exceptional salads. Wine was consumed. Uno was played (who knew there were so many variations of the rules!).
A two hour walk on Friday morning blew away some of the cobwebs from the night before and was a great time to chat and relax before heading home. The fact that we found ourselves on the track of the former Cromford and High Peak Railway, and the site of the former Cromford Engine House, (dating back to 1857), felt fitting.
We really value these annual away days. They help us to take a step back, breathe and review the business from a different and refreshing perspective. Thanks to everyone involved. First class company. And a first class company.
